About the Artist
Bio
I have always had a love for all things relating to art. Since third grade, under the guidance of my quirky elementary school art teacher, I have had the blessing and the curse of knowing exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life--create art. Throughout middle school and high school my respective art teachers aided in further nurturing my love for art and expanding my knowledge and abilities in various mediums. The ability to work in a wide-range of mediums has been great in allowing me to avoid boredom; however, the majority of my time is spent creating work and experimenting with fiber art techniques. My enthusiasm for fibers grew when I entered the BFA Crafts program at Kutztown University, but does not stop with weaving and surface design. Photography, drawing, and painting are also integral areas of creative exploration. Most recently I have expanded my pursuits to include watercolor. I am currently working on further developing my artwork and participating in craft shows and exhibitions before continuing my education toward a Masters in Fine Arts.
Artist Statement
Art is me. It is everything I am and everything I am not. It is where I am going and where I have been. Art is my strength and my weakness. It is a constant work in progress and much more than a phase of infatuation. As a fiber artist I prefer working in the area of non-loom, using fiber art techniques that are not executed on a loom. In my work I am most enthusiastic about utilizing non-traditional materials like wire for its sculptural quality and beads for the overall texture they provide. With an obsessive compulsive love for detail in all facets of my art, I get a sense of accomplishment when I finish a vessel knowing how much time was consumed stringing the beads by hand. In the body of work I am currently working on I have begun to push the technique, spoke-wrapping also referred to as tinkering, in different directions and have begun to incorporate found objects. With a curiousity for other cultures and countries and a love for traveling, inspiration for new artwork springs up in the world surrounding me. I hope to continue experimenting to see how far I can push myself and my work toward larger forms and further incorporation of found objects in the future.
